Watercolour Illustration Strawberry Realistic Technique by Irina Sztukowski

Realistic Watercolor Painting Of Strawberry: Cut, Whole, Flower, Leaves

I painted this realistic style watercolors of strawberries bunch: whole berry, cut in half berry, strawberry flower and leaves; for my clients packaging labels for a strawberry jam.

This realistic approach is created by using a combination technique: wet-on-wet washes with wet-on-dry layers and at the end dry-brush technique.

The applied shadows allow a 3D effect feeling to whole painting.

The highlights on the strawberry were reserved spaces of the white paper, yet the flower was painted with light glaze of ultramarine blue with warm overtones of yellow.

Chestnut Watercolour For Packaging

Realistic Watercolour illustration of a chestnut for food packaging design artist Irina Sztukowski

Painting this realistic watercolor illustration of the chestnut involved a lot of research on my side. I was targeting to paint three stages of the nut in watercolour: first, the nut just picked up from the tree in its fuzzy fur coat, second, the shiny gorgeous nut, the image that we are all so familiar, and then, then; third stage would be a shelled nut, with all its delicious glory.

The rule of three, three watercolor stages of nut painted with watercolor in realistic manner, complemented future packaging design.

It was truly interesting work for me as an illustrator as it allowed me to use my favorite medium, the watercolor, in my favorite technique, realism.

It was such a pleasure to paint those delicious fruit and berries for my client G’s Gourmet Jams.

I was able to use my favorite technique here, realistic approach in watercolor. This technique even though takes a lot of time to accomplish a painting, but it is surely rewarding. Learning from Old Masters of Dutch Still Life, I discovered the truth about my favorite medium, watercolour. The shadow behind the painted fruit and berries illustration allows 3D effect; and, the vivid colors that I used when painting those food illustrations are bringing the artworks to life. Luckily at the time I was painting those scrumptious goodies, I had most of the “models” right next to me. The strawberries and raspberries were from the local Farmers Market. The apricots, blackberries, apples, and blueberries came from my own garden.

And by the time I was ready to paint plums, my friendly neighbor brought a bunch of plums to me. When I cut the plum in half, I’ve noticed a heart shape; my watercolor brush couldn’t stay still until I’ve completed the watercolor plum. And if you notice, the shape of Strawberry was also resembling a heart shape. This can only conclude one very important thing, I do paint with love to watercolor and create food illustrations carefully observing Mother Nature allowing for the beauty of it to come on the paper.

Here are a few pictures of the products, packaging designs and food labels that show who these food illustrations in watercolor look on jams of my client’s production line:

Watercolour Raspberry Blueberry Redcurrant Pie

Today I was painting food illustration for my client – delicious pie, Raspberry Blueberry Redcurrant. Oh, it was hard not to think about tea or coffee while I was painting. As food illustration of pie, its ingredients, was quite repetitious, I first painted a small piece, a slice to show my clients if that what they had in mind: the values, the sizes of the berries, the crust:

After client approved my watercolor slice of pie, I started fearlessly painting berry after berry a whole deliciousness in watercolour using mostly red, blue, and ochre hues as main color palette.

The clients were satisfied, and I was happy that my watercolor painting of this delicious food pretty soon will be appearing on food labels of a product.
