Busy Berry Season & Digital Bugs

I got overwhelmed with a new style these days. I am playing with digital art images in Adobe Illustrator. My digital art so far looks pretty much as my watercolors. And of course, the first subjects that I was playing with, were berries.

I first made digital Strawberries:
Then I created Raspberries:
And then, I thought about exotic berry that is called Acerola:
It was fun to add digital colors into my new creations.
They do look like my watercolors that I’d paint by hand thought.

And, in reality, there is no digital art ever existed that would be without an artist’s creative touch.

My other super digital art started for example with drawing (by hand of course) funny looking bugs. Then I applied a few filters in Adobe Illustrator, and filled with digital color.

Here is the example:

These cute bugs are just asking to jump into some children book.

Strawberry Serendipity – Realistic Watercolor Painting

watercolour realism berries
I was going down the Pacific Ocean coast from a nice mini-vacation with my husband. We stopped at the farmers market to get some vegetables and at the very end decided to get some delicious strawberries:
When I got home I received a new project request from my client, Swiss company, to paint strawberries in realistic manner for one of their client who produces yogurts in Europe.

The timing could not be more right. Miss Serendipity worked quite well. I grabbed my watercolors and brush and started working on this interesting project.
Painting realistic strawberries takes patients and lots of time. The artist needs to carefully research the object, plan the color theme, make very detailed drawing, and still keep the whole picture in mind when painting in small sections one after another.

I enjoyed it very much!

And the reward?!! Besides customer satisfaction, I got a nice desert at the end: organic yogurt with homemade honey and … strawberries!!! 🙂
These realistic paintings of watercolor strawberries (Full Realistic Watercolor Strawberry and Cut In Half Strawberry Watercolor Painting) are now available through my online gallery

Forest Berries Image For Labels

strawberry blackcurrant raspberry

In comparison with Caramel Fudge image, where I had to practically invent and re-invent the composition going through many sketches for the Yogurt Labels international project, the Forest Berries image was relatively easy for me to create.

I just needed to make sure that the berries would be “read” and “separated”, yet are staying in one logical bunch in the black and white image.

Luckily, I had many berries painted for the previous, Jam Labels, project.
So, I already had a sweet velvety Raspberry bunch behind my belt:

I painted quite a few Blackcurrant botanical studies before:

And I had a painting of the Strawberries bunch with flowers and leaves as well:

I just needed to turn on my imagination, grab the pen with ink; and, fearlessly start drawing berry after berry, seed after seed, leave vein after a leave vein.

The shading and the contrast were the keys of the successful drawing for sure!!

A Very Very Berry designs were inspired by the Forest Fruits jam label order that I posted below.
It was an instant desire to bring some of my painted berries together; than more then better, creating one juicy watercolor still life.
It was easy to find good “models” for these artworks.
Mouth watering Beauties!
Sweet, fresh, and mm tasty!!

My last artwork for this season on Jam Labels Project turned out to be my customer’s favorite. Not only I painted the strawberry that she one day cut and discovered the hart shape berry to her surprise; but, I also tried to make a composition meaningful as well. I thought that it would be great if these Little Girls with the flower in “the hair” were dancing some kind of Yummy Dance. And as you noticed they are dancing with Love :0)
To conclude the project, I think it would be nice to place my working materials with Jam Labels suggestions below. It was fun project to do; and, I’ve learned a lot:

When a very special customer of mine asked if I want to paint an Italian style mosaic with the fruit vase, I first thought I did not hear her right: Mosaic? In Watercolors?!! But as an Artist who likes a challenge and loves to explore, I jumped to this project with enthusiasm.
We discussed the details and composition, colors and stylistic approach. The fruits and berries are all her favorites for cooking and baking. And the mosaic painting itself will become some sort of signature of her love to cooking with the heart and passion. From the last posts you remember, her jams are to die for!
And now here is a little game.
Try to find the following:
White Peach
Apricots
Strawberries
Plum
Raspberries
Blackberries
Cherries
Pear
Pineapple
Did you do good?
Now here is another challenge:
Find a Habanero Pepper
It is there.
Wonderful!
How could it have all of that? I can give you a recipe: patience My Friends. When I was painting each tile of this fruit mosaic I meditated while creating those virtual stones: rock by rock, color by color, all in Watercolor!! :0)
And here are a few detailed images of this Mosaic Fruit Vase:

Just like an informal meeting where musicians play together in a Jam Session, my dear customer and I are working on a lengthy but absolutely enjoyable and creative project – A Jam Labels Session. Our first creations involve my Apricot Painting and White Peach painting. I am learning a ton of tricks with PhotoShop to clear the backgrounds and make the files appropriate for the labels. The colors for the labels should be rather bold and bright than containing an artistic realism with complimentary shadows, vanishing perspective, etc. The labels might be as small as 1″x1″ and they still should “read” the image and letters.
Here are our fist attempts of the Jam Labels Project, which as you can see are definitely made with Love:
Yes, there is still so much to do and play with, but already, just by looking at them my mouth is watering and craving one of these delicious jams!
Stay tuned for more Jam Labels creations :0)
