Watercolor Editorial Illustrations – The Burst Of Water & Color

My new creations, which involve only water and color:
editorial watercolor illustrations for magazines and newspaper articles.
As I mentioned in the post about editorial illustrations in my prevoius posts:
These days editorial illustrations extended beyond the world of politics or cartoons as it was in previous years. Now, online newspapers and magazines like to utilize artist’s creativity and supply their articles with colorful editorial illustrations (and quite often the watercolor illustrations are leading in comparison with digital or acrylic illustrations) in order to highlight a conceptual element to engage readers fully into the information that article is delivering.

I let my imagination go wild and created many splashes of watercolors, including strong and beautiful words:

I guess, I just followed my LOVE & PASSION to paint in watercolor with the believe that my watercolor editorial illustrations for sure will engage the readers of magazines and newspapers; that they would invite the readers into a written word, supplied with splashes of watercolor silhouettes.

And for seasonal type of editorial illustrations, I’ve welcomed fall into my watercolors:

I’ve also created two cute trees that indicate the Beginning of Fall:

By now I have three special galleries that are devoted to editorial choices:

All three of these galleries contain creative artworks from abstract to detailed realism to add a lot to an article or a blog post.

Spring Fall Summer Winter Bicycles watercolor silhouettes

The Spring is right behind the corner and I had an excellent idea to combine my new Bicycles creations that reflect each season into one Four Seasons painting design. This festive design has symbolism of each season: flowers, leaves, snow, blossoms; and, meantime it is all united with the Bicycle theme, which is for me personally became a symbol of youth, movement, and great outdoor times.

The Winter Bicycle is full of cold colors of all shades of blue. This is a symbol of being able to overcome some hard times in life by dreaming of movement and a future enjoyment of the life:
Watercolor Silhouettes

The Spring Bicycle painting shows Cherry Blossoms all around it, yet the echo of the Winter season is still trying to steal the show. The cool of overall painting has a new season promises, a great beginning of a new Life:
watercolor silhouette painting bike ride season
The Summer Bicycle is filled with the field of Poppy Flowers. As the beginning of a warm enjoyable season, these flowers greet us with invitation for a nice ride outside:

And my probably the most favorite design with bicycle today, is a Fall Bicycle. I feel that in the orange colors, the color of the Sun and Autumn Leaves there is so much energy being exposed, so much great warm enthusiasm, yet the symbolism of this season is such that we need to enjoy each day of our life while knowing that the Winter is inevitable:

These sweet Red Tulips became a part of my new Collection that is called Watercolor Silhouettes.
The flowers are whimsical and light as if they are floating in an abstract landscape with the sunrise; leaving the viewer some space for imagination.

And for a cool decor lovers I created another painting design with Purple Tulips Silhouettes:

San Francisco Impressionism Vs Abstract

impressionism in watercolors
In these two paintings I was exploring Impressionism and Abstract.
The brush strokes of the above painting with wet-on-wet technique  resemble Bay Area’s windy day when the fog just disappeared revealing the fist sunlight that highlighted emerald green waters of San Francisco Bay. The silhouette of the city is on the background barely visible through the lines of the Golden Gate Bridge.

For another, abstract, painting of San Francisco skyline I used vivid, contrast brush strokes to resemble contemporary life of the downtown with its skyscrapers, lights of the evening city, and the fast pace of the busy megapolis:

Location! Location! Location!

Living in one of the most beautiful places on earth, San Francisco Bay Area, gives a very good favor to an artist’s imagination.

I love looking at San Francisco silhouette from Treasure Island.

I always wanted to paint the skyline and the time has come.

For these designs I carefully drew the silhouette of this beautiful City and filled them with my abstract artworks.
It definitely created a unique pattern that resembles the Golden Gate City, yet does not interrupt the viewers’ eye with too many details of the modern life.

And for those who like the clear city skylines with white background, I made another , more abstract-ish silhouette of San Francisco that would look cool on stretched canvas with black or white edges:

Dance. From Cool To Hot!

Swan Lake Ballet art
Last weekend I have watched an outstanding performance of Smuin Ballet. They were giving only three concerts near the place I live; and, I am so glad I was able to get the tickets and enjoy their Holiday show.

Smuin ballet is located in San Francisco. They perform all over the country. And they have great team of professional dancers from all over the world.

I was watching precise movements of the ballerinas and caught myself on a thought that, usually, when I watch ballet, I always afraid that the dancer makes mistake; that there will be a tiny slip or break in the flow. But, this time, I was relaxed, enjoying the professional moves carefully coordinated with music tones.

The choreography was amazing; the dancers were superb.
My Dancing series came in mind as I could definitely see there a great friendship between music, dance, and visual arts.

As ballet started with the classical scene, I want to share a few art pieces of mine that correlate so well with the first Act of the concert.

These watercolor ballerinas silhouettes I placed into the silver frame, to add some cool tones to the sky blue and ultramarine colors.

Playful white ballerinas’ silhouettes from  my Dancing With The Stars series, have no need to be in color. The white of the bodies shows the movement of the dancer and the watercolor background implies the deep blue blue night:

The second part of the Smuin Ballet performance, was as they said Cool Ballet. Yet it was really great and cool; I wanted to call it HOT. The second Act was all about Christmas and Holidays songs; and the colors were yellow, red, gold, and sparkly.

Right away, I had a vision of hot dancing ballerinas made in watercolors:

The sounds of music added so much vibrant lines into my artist imagination. I saw an abstract floral dance in my mind when watching hot movements on the stage.

And the last art piece I want to share here, is an abstract warm fantasy of a rising from whimsical Earthy colors ballerina.
She has tones of Mother Nature in her outfit and monumental beauty of Arabesque dance.

By now I have around seven dozens of different figurines in my Dance Gallery that were inspired by watching Ballet and Ballroom dancing and by listening to a classical and contemporary music.

Sunrise Sunset

boat, bright, lake, landscape, mellow, red, silhouette, sun, sunrise, sunset, Watercolor, watercolor landscape, yellow
sun through the trees
Three recent paintings were added into a newly created gallery “Sunrise Sunset”.
This time, when painting these three landscapes I wanted to stick to a vertical format instead of the “landscape” one.
I think, when the scenery cut into an elongated painting vertically, it allows viewer to add his or her imagination on what could be on the left or right.
The top painting of the Sunset Through The Trees was an inspiration from my friend’s photograph. Her family traveled Midwest and she took a picture of a gorgeous view of a vanishing day through the trees’ shadows. The silhouettes of the trees like a frame of this artwork, and each section in between like a separate painting that tells the story.

Next painting that I called Bright Sunset has a good mix of yellow and purple that reveal a juicy red… This semi-realistic, semi-abstract painting has a good diagonal composition that competes with the horizon lines and the lines of the wavy waters:

watercolor painting
The third painting has somewhat mellow wash of the colors. It is the beginning of the day, a Nature’s awakening. It is a gentle Sunrise At The Lake.
A little rustic boat is parked next to the shore. Perhaps a couple of friends or lovers were enjoying a night on isolated island of this still, peaceful lake. Who knows .. I paint a hint; and, the story can be continued by a viewer’s imagination:
