Fort Point California San Francisco
Last Saturday plain-air paint day started with a chilly breeze at Fort Point. But due to a cold weather there were not a spec of fog or mist in San Francisco; and, the Golden Gate Bridge was glowing in its full glory.

Our CWA artists group was enjoying painting in such touristic area.

Everyone created their masterpiece in a matter of hours:

Some artists were painting outside hiding behind Fort Point‘s old brick walls. My sister and I painted inside the car with open windows. Why not; I’ve learned this trick from reading biography of Georgia O’Keeffe who sometimes painted in her car going plein-air in the desert.

San Francisco
Last weekend plein-air meeting brought together more than 20 people ( CWA artists and artist-guests).

The location was just right:  Windmill next to the Ocean Beach at the very end of Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. And it couldn’t be a better timing: these days there is a tulip garden planted. We enjoyed painting the flowers (tulips, daffodils, poppies)  while morning fog was disappearing  and the rising Sun lit the Old Windmill. I felt I was in some kind of fairy-tale, in the Little Holland.

Everyone enjoyed that plein-air session. Even my Mom, who does not paint, grabbed a brush and made a masterpiece:

Drifted Away With Lines – Oakland Marina, California – Plein-Air

Last Saturday I went to a plein-air painting to Oakland Marina, next to Quinn’s Lighthouse. What a beautiful place! The weather allowed us to paint from 9:00am to 11:00am and then it started raining. Rain, as you know is not the best friend of watercolor artists. So, we had to hide in the restaurant for our critique; which was actually not bad at all. With the hot coffee, french fries, and warm environment, the critique spread to good couple of hours.
We gathered all out paintings into a middle of the dining hall.

The hazy cool morning in Alameda Crab Cove grew later into a lovely sunny day; but in my painting I wanted to pick up the beginning of the day when the bird is thinking of its breakfast, the tide is getting lower, and the wind surfers on the background just started setting up their sails for an active weekend fun.

And here the report from my fellow artists and their arts. It was great to be with the group of them to discuss our art works, laugh, share, and inspire each other:

Today I’ve visited a beautiful ranch of the famous American writer Eugene O’Neill.

My sister, I, and a bunch of great artist-friends came to explore and if weather permitted paint Plein-Air. The day was gorgeous; and I grabbed my brush. After visiting the house we explored the ranch. I decided to paint this white barn and an old beat-up wagon.

The ranch is now a part of the National Parks system. Several times a year there are performances of Eugene O’Neill’s plays as well as the Artists Days. And even we visited Tao House ranch in a quiet Saturday, it was still interesting to see students there who were rehearsing for a tomorrow performance. The barn was filled with theater spirit, I’ve heard the part of the play and felt as I was a part of the really sacred act that brought live a play that was written more than half century ago.

Did you know, that…

America’s only Nobel Prize winning playwright, Eugene O’Neill, chose to live in Northern California at the height of his writing career. Isolated from the world and within the walls of his home, O’Neill wrote his final and most memorable plays; The Iceman Cometh, Long Day’s Journey Into Night, and A Moon for the Misbegotten.
