Realism in Watercolor

This rose was another commission painting for the Notebooks collection. I loved to paint the dew drops as it’s been a while since I did them. The challenge was to melt them into the painting in order that the eye will see the beauty of the rose fist and the little drops a moment later.

Watercolor Painting of Tulips by the artist Irina Sztukowski

With Spring is just around the corner, I remembered about this old painting of mine. Tulips are such gentle flowers; and, the variety of colors and types is just amazing! I loved painting the tiny stripes on a white lit by a morning light petals.

This sweet vintage style rose collection has contemporary feeling to it as I painted those roses in realistic style yet combined them together in a decorative clusters as some old tea party china or a dining-wear used to be created.

Spring Blossoms Pink And Purple Sunrise

acrylic painting by Irina Sztukowski
Even though here in California, Spring is slowly moving into Summer, and many trees already dropped their blossoms while teeny tiny fruits are forming on their branches, I am still in awe with Spring Blossoms at their peak of the season.

This artwork of Cherry Blossoms is created with acrylic paint. I wanted to show how another of my favorite water medium works greatly revealing fine texture of the paint on paper:

And recently, looking at my artwork from the bird’s view point, I’ve noticed that purple is becoming one of my favorite color. I’ve created so many artworks with this hue that I felt that there is a need to collect them into a separate gallery.
I called this Art Gallery –
It has paintings from abstract to realism with all shades of purple color from sweet gentle lilac to deep violets:

Dancing Pearls

One day pearls had a dream, they wanted to dance. They sneaked into ballet slippers and waited for their turn…

I love watching ballet. My childhood city Saint Petersburg is famous by Kirov (now Mariinsky) Theater. I used to come there when I was a kid and always was curious how those tiny teeny girls can dance on their tiptoes barely touching the ground. It seemed so easy so light. When I was around ten my Dad helped the theater to pack their costumes for a business trip; and, when they learned he has two girls they presented him (oh Gosh!) two pair of cute little slippers.. My sister and I tried to dance in them and realized that it is not that easy and light. Good life lesson…

I painted pearls and ballet slippers together as when looking at them I know how it is difficult go achieve the light flawless dance performance and it is hard to get a pearl from the deep sea. Yet I admire their beauty and loveliness with all my heart and appreciate AWE moment when I see the dancing ballerina or a great piece of jewelry.

This painting was my first experience on Artistico Fabriano paper. I love its smooth fine surface.

Tulips on Fire

Florals, flower painting, green, original art, pink, red, tulip, tulips, yellow

One of the best and the most amazing things for the Artist is when he/she can share the art with other people. And it is always great when people admire your art, and when people want your art – is the most grateful moments. Although, for me personally it is hard sometimes to detach from my paintings. That’s probably why I sell more prints than paintings ;)… Original paintings are like babies. But hey, children suppose to grow up and eventually they will make outside the nest.
Today one of my favorite customers sent me an e-mail with the subject: ” I have to have it!” She chose this painting of tulips. When I painted this one I really wanted to show the sun showing through the petals penetrating them through red making it pink. The game of three colors (red, pink, and yellow) reminded me of a fire. And I called this painting “Tulips on Fire”. I am glad that now these tulips will sparkle in someones’ house 🙂

Red on Green

aquabord, bord, commision paintings, green, pink, red, rose, watercolors, watercolour

Here is the second attempt to conquer Aquabord. When using this board the best result can be achieved by dabbing watercolor into a previously well-wetted surface. The patience is the key; although you really need to be fast as the board is drying very quickly.
I am sure I will be back to using Old Sweet 140/300lb Arches; it is just always interesting to try something new……………………………………………………………………..

Rose In The Blue Vase

Irina Sztukowski

I painted this beautiful rose in a blue vase back in 2009. The original found home in the private collection in Virginia. And I placed the print in my Art Shop on Etsy today. I am so happy that people are interested in buying prints from original watercolors. This gives opportunity to the art to go around and bring joy to not just one person. Today I sold the piece and the piece is ready to to to NY state.
I am thinking that we should not be skeptical about making and selling the copies of our art. With an effort on our part the prints, cards, posters can give a second life to the piece that was already sold or is not for sale.
