Fog In San Francisco

Watercolor by Irina Sztukowski
When I moved to San Francisco around 15 years ago, I was lucky to get an apartment in the most beautiful place of the city, next to the Ocean Beach, with the walking distance to Golden Gate park.

I couldn’t understand the face expression of my friends when I was announcing about my new place to live… My friends just shook their heads and said: “A lot of fog!”… So what?!! I didn’t get it at that time. But when the fog season came, oh, I understood that face expression clearly. The fog was milky thick, I couldn’t see not even Pacific Ocean.. not even a closest street crosswalk, not even my hands.. (exaggerating, of course!! :))
But, really, if I painted the Golden Gate bridge that time, it would be more like that:
But I need to have a mercy for my Art Collectors; so, I am revealing the Bridge in all its monumental beauty, just slightly touching it with the “Fog Application”.. just for the feel of those foggy days..

Welcome to the Bay Area San Francisco, one of the most beautiful places on Earth!!

For the artist that loves flowers and music, it was very easy for me to imagine those two together.
Besides, quite often I listen to the music while I am painting. And, quite often it is classical music. One of my favorite pieces by Tchaikovsky is the music for ballet Nutcracker
The Walt Of The Flowers and Adagio I can listen twenty times a day and never get tired. There is certain magic in each sound and a wave of that music.
When I listen to it, my brush paints itself, or my brain “composes” the art pieces and I create new designs with previously painted flowers as if it was “by magic” :).

This little series of Walt Of The Flowers (that keeps growing of course), I have added to my Dance Gallery with different watercolor ballerina’s silhouettes.

After saying a nice Farewell to the Summer, I thought it will be appropriate to greet the new season and welcome Fall.

In this abstract design I “quilted” in a hundred squares from the dozens of my Autumn theme watercolor paintings.

I can imagine how these squares might bring the light into the interior filling a room with the cold air, yet flaming warm colors; and, celebrating this gorgeous festive season:

Window With The View

Recently, when my family was looking for a new house, I’ve noticed that a lot of times there was something missing in the decor. Some houses had nice layouts; but, some of the walls were looking lonely and empty to me.
My imagination didn’t let me wait any longer; and, I started creating designs with the view. And that is how the Windows With The View series was born.
Imagine, a painting that becomes a window! It will allow the art collector to fulfill two things at once: a piece of art and a perfect desirable view from the window.
All of a sudden an empty wall would reveal an ocean view like that:

Or, a painting with the Fall Forest…

…will bring a warm touch to any decor. Though, it might bring a magic time freeze too: the seasons will stop moving and it will be all time Autumn in your living room (unless you change the theme once in three months, of course):

Yet the view with the lake and monumental rocks is timeless. It might be great view for a home office or upstairs loft:

And I have no doubt, that no one in the world would resist a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge for their Summer house or permanent location :0)

The search for the new house led me to a creation of a new series; a combination of old and new paintings, and numerous ideas for a perfect window view.

A Rose Is A Rose Is A Rose

The idea to paint a single rose started more than a decade ago when I saw gorgeous Rose Garden in San Francisco Golden Gate Park.
Roses their are amazing!
Each of them has its own color and texture character.
That single Rose above is “dancing” , her “skirt” is swirling with the motion.

The morning rose lit by a gentle sun has somewhat silky transparency that caught my attention:

And wherever I went I saw the beauty of a single rose, even if it is just a bud, young and pink:

The dew drops on this single rose here suggest a fresh lovely morning:

When speaking of a rose , it is said that these gorgeous flowers have a special meaning. And not only the color of the rose in this case should be considered. The number is also playing an important role in the symbolic message that one person want to convey.
A single rose of any color in full bloom means
LOVE
a simple message
I LOVE YOU
It depicts supreme devotion from one person to another, as if it is said in a gesture of giving a single rose:
All my sincere affections are concentrated in you,
ONLY YOU!

All presented designs in this post are created from my watercolor paintings of a single rose. The virtual frame is “build-up” from painting of a Myrtle Wood surface. I thought the texture of this wood will be perfect to “frame” my single roses creations.
This wood is amazingly strong, it only grows in certain area’s on our planet and it has unique structure, almost metallic shine if to look closely.
The cooler color designs looked almost like marble:

All these and many more collages of my watercolor single roses will be posted in a Decor Gallery very soon.

I am in the process of preparing a few paintings for one international art show in Rochester, NY.  The theme that I chose this time is about the water. Since I paint mostly in watercolor, I called it Water On Color series, where the realism in watercolor is mixed with the abstract pattern.
The six paintings that I made helped me to create some of these collages.
The above collage has a cool feeling with just a few splashes of yellow, when the collage below is full of “fire-like” strikes and hot washes:

The art show is taking place in July 2014, so I will post more details later on.

For now, I am just “splashing” some Water On Color 🙂

Interior Decoration With Designers Prints – Poppies and Sunflowers

acrylic, art that sells, collage, decor, design, Designers Prints, interior, Irina, modern, poppies, sunflowers, Sztukowski, Vincent van Gogh, Watercolor
I was excited to learn that the company I was offering the prints of my art before; recently, this company entered an additional business. Now, my art is presented at DesignersPrints.com website, which is available for designers companies to purchase.

These days, I have chance to look at my art with the new point of view.Yes, it is known that the main purpose of visual art is to decorate: living room, kitchen, bedroom or kids room. But a whole new segment I have not considered before. All of a sudden, DesignerPrints opened my horizons to some new venues: hotels, business offices, hospitals, educational facilities; apparently  they are all looking for a good art to put up on their walls.

And I am glad I should not worry about signing the contracts with all that businesses while flying from state to state with my art portfolio. The company is working for me. Yey! My important responsibility though stays the same: It is – to create art; and, I am doing it, aren’t I ?

:0)

But as a person with the wild imagination, I really wanted to fantasize how would my art pieces look on a wall, let’s say, a suite of a hotel, or a waiting room at the dentist office, or even at VA hospital..

I created imaginary wall and decorated it, just for fun.

Here is, for example, my new (quite decorative as I think) painting of Poppies touched by a gentle breeze.

Hm, how would this piece look on a wall?
Here you go!
watercolor canvas prints
Just like a garden, or at least window to the garden….

And here is one experimental art piece that I’ve recently created with thick acrylic paint on a wooden board (a Sunflowers painting that I jokingly called Vincent Van Gogh Would Cry).

How would this painting, enhanced with multiple designs, look on a wall?
Here you go!!

Would Vincent cry now? 😉

Classroom – Watercolor Collage

abstract, art that sells, artist, bestselling artist, class, classroom, collage, create, creative, idea, light bulb, Sztukowski, Uncategorized

I gave this collage quite a long name: “When Heart is in
Watercolors Bright Ideas Will Come”. Long but so simple and so self-explanatory.
This collage was born in my Art 106 Drawing & Composition class that I am
taking this semester. The assignment was to show a class room using one-point
perspective and based on our real facility. We could also add either personal
meaning or pursue some theme. Materials are glue, paper, magazine cut-outs or
whatever we could find and apply.
My idea did not wait too long to be born. And as I used to
have a watercolor class in the same room, and I am now a proudly devoted
watercolor artist, I have decided to organize my “Classroom” placing my
watercolor art on the walls and making all students look like me. Basically, it
is me in the different stages of the art process. And yes, when I create I have
that “light” glowing in my mind. Yet when I am tired (you see the girl at the
far left desk?) the ideas are “turned off”. I cut my art for walls, the still
life, and the little hearts from my old postcards and calendars. And the Blick
art supply magazine helped me to make the space look more like a classroom or studio.
The lights for the lightbolbs came from Michael’s cute cards supply shelves.
While cutting the postcards with my watercolor, I had
another bright idea. There are a lot of sketch-like, palette pieces, and drafts
watercolor around my studio. I could definitely use them one day to create some
decorative art pieces and give them a new life.
Studying about collages in my art history class last
semester I’ve learned that collage art was basically initiated by Picasso and
his artist friend…. They looked for a different materials for their art and
started combining their found objects on one flat space, would it be a piece of
cardboard or wood. Collage in its Nature is brining various materials in one
organized space and giving them sometimes totally new meaning… Courtesy to WiKi
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collage
The term collage derives from the French “coller”
meaning “
glue”. This term was coined by both Georges
Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century
when collage became a distinctive part of modern art.
