Bernard Goes To Music School children book illustration
In one of these two illustrations that I painted for the book “Bernard Goes To Music School” , I pictured the boy on his walk along the creek. He is curiously watching salmon swimming down the stream. The Fall season is indicated by colors in the trees on the apposite embankment and leaves on the ground. Fall has just started. Little boy loves to explore the Nature. He loves his walk!

But he also helps his parents in the garden. He is a hard worker. In the next illustration, I painted a garden filled with blooming flowers. The house is in the back lit by the morning sun. The boy has just watched his parents working in the garden, and now he is helping them by pulling this huge pipe, arranging the landscape. And, I placed a porcelain decorative Mr Frog right next to the boy as if he helps him too 🙂

Paining children book illustrations is fun, and it is a process that needs to be well organized. The artist should not overlook any elements. They are all helping kids to explore the illustration later on, when parents are reading the specific page. The composition of the paintings would help the exploration flow.

In these two illustrations I tried to play with diagonal composition (The Salmon Creek) where the painting’s energy is “moving” with the stream. And, in “Working Boy” I “locked” the composition on the boy with the pipe by placing tulip flowers on the left of the illustration and the frog to the right of it.

Bernard Goes To Music School book is now published and available on Amazon.com. It is easy to find by clicking HERE or by placing Irina Sztukowski in Amazon search window.

Botanical Impressionism On Baby Blue

blue design, bouquet, children room, decor, Flowers, Handmade, kids room, paper, Watercolor, watercolor cards, watercolor flowers
painted cards

My Botanical Impressionism series is continuing; and, now I feel like going to a Baby Blue mood. It started with painting on handmade paper when I created a few little handmade watercolor cards.
I placed one card against a blue canvas and instantly fell in love  with the idea:
a handmade paper edges with the baby-blue canvas bring somewhat vintage feeling into the artwork. Yet the flowers, that are painted spontaneously, give a good impressionistic feeling.

Here are a few more recent designs:

A true burst of flowers is now in the Decor Gallery : tulips, daisies, daffodils, and many others! Yet it still growing just like a good gardener is using water to grow his plants, I use the watercolor and imagination to “grow” my watercolor flower bouquets.

Vintage China Antique Dolly
SOLD
(prints are available HERE)
This still life was created from several antique objects. The lovely china is from 1921. It was made in Bavaria, then one family from Russia purchased it and later on they brought it to America. The doll is from 50s. I borrowed it from my friend for the still life set. And the quilt on the background is made by my husbands great grandmother long long time ago when they did do each stitch by hand.
I love the vintage feeling of the sweet coffee cups. It was a challenge though to paint them white-on-white (white cups against a light quilt’s background, but I kept it that way to bring a light to this art work):

The most fun I had of course when painting polka-dotted Redhead Red Hat Girl. This lady really knew when to come for a tea party. Though she was waiting in the box for half century for that.

I’v even created a few designs with cards to celebrate the Old Times with the sweet messages:
