Happy Easter

This year catholic and orthodox Easter is celebrated in the same day. It happens not every year.
I find it to be wonderful. It is a good symbol of unity.
Happy Easter!
Yet, I am still wondering: why the Bunny has to hide all those eggs?! 😉

Realism In Watercolor

Upcoming Easter was a good excuse for me to create a Nest With the Eggs in watercolor. I loved painting this symbolic artwork. Nest resembles a new life, a family, and a great new season.
And then, it is always great to add some colorful Easter Cards to my festive collection:

I am posting some of the festive designs that I recently painted.

I call this style Botanical Impressionism.
Created in the fast manner with the colors right out of the tube simple flower arrangement such the one with Iris Flowers and The Tulip Bunch look great in cooler colors surrounding.

On another hand, warm Poppies and Roses Bouquet are calling for neutral beige colors helping these flowers to “pop-up”:

Watercolor floral designs
The above paintings appear more as botanical art when framed in the vintage style white wooden frames.
Yet, when printed on a stretch canvas, they start obtaining more Impressionistic qualities.
Good examples would be these

watercolor Holidays Decor
Just a week ago I created a new Gallery on my website www.artirina.com that is called Gift Ideas and as a token of my appreciation posted a little discount code for my customers ( GVVPSS at the check out point); as already my lovely customers and Art Collectors started purchasing prints from my website :).
It is so great that two Poinsettia paintings went to Palos Heights from the state of Illinois:

Both of these Poinsettia paintings look so festive as Holidays interior decoration.

And the local customer from Bay Area San Francisco decided to greet the guests by placing my Christmas Angel painting in the hallway of a lovely home:watercolor holiday decor

Many thanks to all my dear Art Collectors, who purchased or going to purchase gifts from my website , for appreciating my art!

Here are the galleries that are worth exploring in the spirit of Holiday Season:

The Valentine’s month is in full bloom and I prepared a few designs that are very appropriate for such sweet season.

This year, I decided to make the hearts with the flowers and merge flowers with hearts, romantic things and places.

In the designs above and below, the flowers are forming the heart, just like in old days, the artists made their vintage cards with floral decor.

Then, I imagined a trip to Paris and placed bicycle and roses next to the Eiffel Tower, one of the most romantic places in Europe:

I also added a few hearts and pink roses into a vintage style design, where romance and floating Paris letters are creating a beautiful dance manifesting the Love and wonderful feelings:

And speaking of dance, I’ve added a lovely romantic design with ballerina silhouettes, and hidden rose heart.
This artwork actually became the beginning of my new series Waltz Of The Flowers (which I am going to share on my blog soon):

Peruvian Princess Lily

parrot flower
A beautiful surprise I have found in my garden last morning. As this season I haven’t planted any flowers in my new house garden; I have to enjoy the previous owners imagination and keep observing different flowers pop here and there..

This time it was this cute gentle pink miniature lily.

I have grabbed my watercolors and employed my newly purchased watercolor pencils together with them. I wanted to try the combination of both long time ago; and, these flowers gave me a chance inspiring my artist’s curiosity. It was fun to experiment with different shades of the pencils and see how water unite the strokes and melts them together.

The painting came up more vibrant in colors as I didn’t have chance to over-mix the watercolors on the palette; and, I had to use what was given in 24-pencil-bunch.

Along the way, I’ve also learned some interesting facts about the flowers themselves. For example, if to leave them in the garden, they can grow up to 3 feet tall.
Native to South America, this plant is commonly called Peruvian Lily or Princess Lily; Lily Of The Incas or Parrot Lily; and, it’s real botanical name is Alstroemeria. There are as many as 190 different types of this flower have been developed (no wonder, so many names it’s gotten!!), featuring many different shapes and colors, including white, yellow, orange, apricot, pink, red, purple, and lavender. This flower is quite popular among the florists as it reminds a miniature lily; it is a hardy plant, stays in the bouquet long and doesn’t lose the freshness of the color.

I bet my Peruvian Princess Lilies will never lose their vibrant “parrot” colors no matter how long they hang being framed and placed on the wall 🙂

This season I played with Easter Eggs to create these festive cards.
With the help of watercolor paint and watercolor markers, the eggs were “growing” like weeds in my art-studio-garden:

Butterflies and chickens visited my imagination:

The flowers were playing around dancing in circles around the eggs:

The garden grew and grew from some magic bulbs:

There were so many flowers-eggs in my artful garden, that I had to create a whole new gallery that I named

Happy Birthday – Again?!!

Happy Birthday
It is becoming a good tradition now to give myself a Gift of Art every year.
This year in the month of my Birthday, I created Happy Birthday designs with the flowers from my virtual garden, most of them are the images of the paintings that were already sold. And now, they get a new, also very Happy, appearance in my Happy Birthday designs.

For example these lovely Sunflowers:
I thought that blue and green background with yellow highlights will give them a good contrast:

The gentle purple of the orchid called for lilac and purple shades:

Rich royal blue helped the Poppies and Purple Iris to be “framed” in a simple, yet romantic design:

As well as those Impressionistic Water Lilies, which are “floating” in the blue, water-like, surrounding:

Juicy pink made my Hibiscus and the Rose with the Dew Drops even more gentle:

And a sweet miniature Tulips on the window were just a right size for this vintage feeling Birthday card:

Overall, I shell say, I went overboard with my Happy Birthday designs this year as I created dozens of floral Birthday cards.
But what a great gift to myself!!
Besides, I surely had lots of fun!

Painting Floral Cards
Demo at Coffee Break started with bright Red on my brush. I, all of a sudden, wanted to begin not with Wet-On-Dry technique as planned, but with Wet-On-Really-Really-Wet..

I splashed some water in random places on the paper and made them red allowing the paint to flow down creating the stems of the flowers. My model was a recent loose painting of Red Puppies, which I created using the same technique:
Purple Lavender Yellow Flowers
After the first painting was done, I’ve made a few more cards with Wet-On-Dry technique “pulling” images from my memory.

Then my imagination ran wild and I even made Kitchen Towels and Christmas Plates (using Zazzle.com service):
