It was so much fun to create a Lavender painting from the Coloring Book that soon will be published on my Author Page; and, it was even more fun to document the painting process in a small video with the help of my co-author Masha Batkova:

Florence Watercolor Sketches – Such Young Such Different City

Italian city travel City
Visiting Florence for almost a week I had an opportunity painting there, learning its history, feeling its character; which allowed me to make a certain conclusion.
Florence is actually a young city as Italians would say. Even though the beginning of the town goes back to medieval times, majority of the city was build in 18th Century.
Florence is so different to my artist’s eye. One moment I was passing by all “framed in stone” buildings on the streets with not a hint of any greenery; and all of a sudden, I was in a gorgeous park without visible end with wild paths and fruit trees.

Above sketch was made in Boboli Gardens next to Pitti Palace. I loved painting the Fountain Island full of flowers and pots with lemon trees while hiding myself somewhere in the bushes of the huge trimmed hedge:

The other day I was stunned by the beauty of an ancient Basilica San Lorenzo. There were so many people around that it was hard to find a place to sit and look up at the gorgeous dome; but, I managed it:

The day was hot and the clouds just started forming. I wanted to show this monumental beauty, with its beige and brown of a solid stone cathedral against a gorgeous sunny sky:

In these two watercolors I pointed the difference between young greens of Boboli Gardens with their fruits and flowers of a new season in comparison with old gorgeous man made monolith that lasts centuries.

Bicycle For All Seasons

Spring Fall Summer Winter Bicycles watercolor silhouettes

The Spring is right behind the corner and I had an excellent idea to combine my new Bicycles creations that reflect each season into one Four Seasons painting design. This festive design has symbolism of each season: flowers, leaves, snow, blossoms; and, meantime it is all united with the Bicycle theme, which is for me personally became a symbol of youth, movement, and great outdoor times.

The Winter Bicycle is full of cold colors of all shades of blue. This is a symbol of being able to overcome some hard times in life by dreaming of movement and a future enjoyment of the life:

The Spring Bicycle painting shows Cherry Blossoms all around it, yet the echo of the Winter season is still trying to steal the show. The cool of overall painting has a new season promises, a great beginning of a new Life:

The Summer Bicycle is filled with the field of Poppy Flowers. As the beginning of a warm enjoyable season, these flowers greet us with invitation for a nice ride outside:

And my probably the most favorite design with bicycle today, is a Fall Bicycle. I feel that in the orange colors, the color of the Sun and Autumn Leaves there is so much energy being exposed, so much great warm enthusiasm, yet the symbolism of this season is such that we need to enjoy each day of our life while knowing that the Winter is inevitable:

interior design

In this post I wanted to share my excitement about how great the organic curbs and lines of abstract design (that I’ve recently created) can nicely fit the room interior and bring a lovely complement to a room appearance in whole.

The Purple Rose Petals Abstract (above) is in a sweet harmony with the violet tint and cool tones of the living room interior.

In the next photo, the Vintage Rose Petals make a good statement in the hallway of a house:

Organic Line On Blue highlight the strict design of a black and white interior:

On another hand, the Lines On Green Abstract Painting is complementing this living room coffee table and its natural simple decor:

Fog In San Francisco

Watercolor by Irina Sztukowski
When I moved to San Francisco around 15 years ago, I was lucky to get an apartment in the most beautiful place of the city, next to the Ocean Beach, with the walking distance to Golden Gate park.

I couldn’t understand the face expression of my friends when I was announcing about my new place to live… My friends just shook their heads and said: “A lot of fog!”… So what?!! I didn’t get it at that time. But when the fog season came, oh, I understood that face expression clearly. The fog was milky thick, I couldn’t see not even Pacific Ocean.. not even a closest street crosswalk, not even my hands.. (exaggerating, of course!! :))
But, really, if I painted the Golden Gate bridge that time, it would be more like that:
But I need to have a mercy for my Art Collectors; so, I am revealing the Bridge in all its monumental beauty, just slightly touching it with the “Fog Application”.. just for the feel of those foggy days..

Welcome to the Bay Area San Francisco, one of the most beautiful places on Earth!!

I thought I pull something from my personal archive; the painting that I made many years ago.

This sweet Lilly almost became my Avatar back in 2010; but, I made my selection and chose the different artwork for that.

Warsaw, Poland – Travel With Me – Sketchbook Project

art, artwork, bestseller, Irina, Sketchbook, Sztukowski, Travel, Uncategorized, Warsaw, Watercolor, watercolour

When I am in Poland, I really would love to visit Warsaw, the city which history goes as far back as the 12th and 13th century. And when I am there it would be great to go St. Mary’s Old Church (in Polish: Kosciól Nawiedzenia Najswietszej Marii Panny). It is one of oldest buildings and one of the few surviving examples of Gothic architecture in the city, which was built in 1411. And in spite of the fact it was destroyed almost completely during World War II, it was reconstructed and brings joy to people in our days. I’ve read about this church that it became a symbol of the capital’s rebirth of post-war re-creation of the Old Town Warsaw, which was practically risen from ashes after a devastation of the war.

Siena, Italy – Travel With Me – Sketchbook Project

artwork, bestseller, Italy, paintings, Positano, Siena, Sketchbook, Sztukowski, Travel, Uncategorized, Watercolor

Italia! Italia! I always wanted to go there. And my desire doubled if not tripled when last Summer I started learning about Medieval and Renaissance art in my Art History class. Italy became the center of art and culture many centuries ago. Artists from different countries went to learn art in Italy from old masters. Throughout the times the history was well preserved there. And I believe that unlike some of other European cities Italian ones keep their charm and remain untouched by civilization with its concrete-glass-high scrapers; or, at least I want to believe. I’ve also heard that Italian people are very nice. My friend lived in Italy for several years and when she came to Russia she said that the character of Russian people, their charisma reminded her Italian character a lot.
When I am in Italy, my first destination will be most likely Florence, Rome, and Venice. But if time and money permits I would love to visit Siena (you see on the sketch and will understand me why) and Positano. And wherever I go I want to paint, take tons of pictures, visit museums and churches and of course to see the original art in person. My sister and I even started learn Italian together. She is more advanced in this language than I am; yet I’ve recently learned one but very good phrase: Anno nuovo vita nuova! (which means New Year New Life!) There is something in this sentence very inspiring and promising, isn’t it!? 🙂
