Watercolor Books, Coloring Books, Journals, Diaries, Planners by artist illustrator Irina Sztukowski
Here is a little article where Artist comments on the creation of a coloring book about Horses:
One thing that I have to admit is that it is more simple for me to work on a commissioned editorial illustrations in watercolor compare to a participation in this interesting yet quite complicated project: Horses Coloring And Activity Book for All Ages.
Apparently, working with the customers on books, magazines, or editorial illustrations, the requirements usually are already in place. As the rule, the Project budget is established at the beginning. In all the cases, I communicate properly and in timely manner, and certainly we get a great understanding on what customer wants to get from the artist to accomplish their goal.
And quite contrary, when I work on my own books, carrying two hats at once, I become my own boss and I make myself draw and redraw, paint and re-paint. I want to properly decide the most desirable format for my future readers. Sometimes, it is quite overwhelming to work on my own books as watercolor ones as well coloring books. Very good example here, is when I created Flowers books there were easy steps involved such as I love flowers, I collected a lot of paintings, then I drew from my own watercolor works; and, I added drawings into the book. It was just coloring book with just flowers. But the Horses book is more than just a coloring book, the book that anyone can buy, then color, and then place it in the frame for a wall (see example HERE). Coloring Book about Horses is meant to be an Activity book; yet not only for children it is also for adults. My idea here is to create some simple drawings. They should be fun for kids, and interesting for adults. I’ve noticed when teaching all ages how to paint that adults are afraid to color! Children are not! And as a rule of thumb, when people grow the develop some doubts on their ability to draw, color, create. I really want that my coloring book, which is also an activity book will unite children and adults. Parents will be happy to participate in the project together with their kids. And hopefully, adults will wake up a child from within. Yes, it is much easier to accomplish business rules with clients of mine that have established requirements. When in my personal project of creating horse book there are rules that I have to make up myself, then follow them, and transfer the joy of creation to my co-creators who will color and play.
